This chain of islands in Lake Erie includes Gibraltar Island, Kelleys Island, the Bass Islands and others. The majority of these islands are under the sovereignty of the State of Ohio. Pelee Island is the only major island administered by Ontario, although Middle Island is the southernmost point in Canada. The large islands are popular tourist attractions with car ferries running from the mainland and between some islands, plus small airports and numerous private marinas offer alternate ways to reach the islands.
CEDAR POINT
People throughout the entire world know about it. It's the number-one rated amusement park on the planet. It's also the second oldest amusement park in North America. With a history dating back to 1870, the classic amusement park/resort on the shore of Lake Erie has seen its share of rides, roller coasters, trends and history. More than three million guests visit Cedar Point during the park's May to October operating season. The park sits on 364-acres and has over 70 rides, including 15 roller coasters.
GIBRALTAR ISLAND
The island is situated in the waters of Lake Erie and is a part of Put-In-Bay. Gibraltar Island received its name because the eastern edge of the island rises out of the water in a similar manner to the more famous rock of the Mediterranean. The Island became a lookout point for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry in the fight against the British during the War of 1812. Perry and his men defeated a fleet of British sailing vessels during the famous Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813. As a result, the lookout point on Gibraltar Island became known as Perry's Lookout. While on the island students will visit the 15-room Victorian-Gothic mansion (now known as Cooke Castle).
KELLEYS ISLAND
Having nearly 3,000-acres, Kelleys Island is the largest of the American islands. The most famous glacial grooves in the United States are found at Glacial Grooves State Park – evidence of the powerful erosional forces that shaped thousands of square miles of our landscape. Kelleys is also the site of Inscription Rock – 32 feet long and 21 feet wide. Inscription Rock is a pictographic history of the Erie Indian tribe. The Eries, who gave their name to the lake, were wiped out on Kelleys Island in the 18th century by the mighty Iroquois nation. The charm of Kelleys Island can also be easily explored by foot. The south shore maintains much of the original island architecture. Discovery is yours along the State Park and Nature Preserve trails.
PORT CLINTON / SANDUSKY

SOUTH BASS ISLAND
The village of Put-in-Bay is the most popular stop for students on South Bass Island. The island is often referred to as the ‘Key West of southern Lake Erie.’ Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial, including Perry's Monument which commemorates the Battle of Lake Erie is also located on South Bass Island, near Put-In-Bay. Transportation via motor coach, car, bike, or walking to the island is provided by boats from The Miller Ferry (departing from the northern point of Catawba Island) and Jet Express (departing from Port Clinton). While on the island, enjoy a narrated tram tour of Put-in-Bay and see the famous lighthouse that was recently placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
